One case, three mechanisms, three remedies
The lenses overlap, but they do different analytic work. Each names something the other two cannot see, and each remedy leaves the other two mechanisms running.
Lukes
- Sees an item deferred and unminuted, and people who stopped asking
- Backgrounds a definition that keeps producing the same answer with nobody deciding anything
- Would change publish every deferral, let staff set the agenda, require a recorded decision either way
Foucault
- Sees the definition of a reportable concern, and who holds the equipment that satisfies it
- Backgrounds identifiable people, interests served, and anybody who could be held answerable
- Would change rewrite the definition, hand the monitoring equipment over
Fricker
- Sees whose words were downgraded, and what nobody had a category for
- Backgrounds a definition that produces the same outcome whether or not anyone is believed
- Would change weight reports by exposure not grade, add the missing category, train those receiving reports
Key idea: No lens is the correct one. Each names a mechanism the other two cannot see, and each remedy leaves the other two running. Open the agenda completely and the manual still requires an instrument reading. Rewrite the manual and the committee can still defer. Believe every technician in the building and item 2 does not move.
